Penny Mendelsohn is a proud fourth-generation owner and operator of McFar, bringing over 25 years of expert roofing experience in New York City. Mentored by her father—her best friend and closest confidant—coupled with a solid background in architecture, Penny has transformed into an inspiring leader dedicated to elevating industry standards. Widely known as “Penny the Roofer,” she combines genuine personal connection with relentless determination to educate others on the vital importance of a strong, reliable roof. Her passions lie atop roofs and along the shoreline, reflecting her love for both her craft and the ocean. Beyond her professional pursuits, Penny is a committed philanthropist serving on multiple charity boards. She is an avid yogi, a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and currently expanding her martial arts expertise through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Penny’s multifaceted dedication makes her a remarkable leader, inspiring others through her resilience, discipline, and genuine care.
Ethan DerAris
Ethan DerAris, David’s grandson and Penny’s nephew, became the fifth generation to join the family business in 2023. Ethan took on the role of General Manager, working alongside the family to continue serving the tri-state area with the same dedication and integrity that has been the foundation of McFar for over a century. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Bentley University and previously worked in business development, healthcare and interned at Prudential Financial. Ethan enjoys DIY projects, playing sports, and loves the New York Rangers and Yankees.
David Farbstein
David Farbstein returned from the Vietnam War in 1969 and joined his father at United Roofing and Waterproofing Inc. As 3rd generation he started McFar Contractors in 1980, with the goal of offering more personalized service than his father’s company. David built McFar’s reputation as a trustworthy, family-owned business known for its quality work. Now, he works alongside his daughter and grandson, continuing the family tradition into the next generation.
Kumarie Lokie
Kumarie has over 30 years of office management experience, supporting executive teams and managing operations in various industries, including construction and retail. She oversees financial records and time management while excelling in organization and customer service.
